This customer, a subsidiary of China Mobile with a registered capital of RMB 1.4 billion, is a high quality video service provider for Internet users. As the only operation entity involved in video business of China Mobile, this customer provides global audience with excellent video service.
This customer owns over 720,000 hours of HD video content and telecasts domestic and foreign sports events 24 hours each day. It also provides rolling updates of political, entertainment, sports, military and other short information content, updated to 2000 daily.
• Existing conventional architecture unable to meet the demand of video business: New video business features fast updates and the release efficiency of existing architecture is rather low. Each time, release had to be done during ebb hours; besides, business verification was complicated and time consuming, and the business maintenance cost was high.
• Core business (video on demand system) cannot be expanded in real time during peak hours: Although high availability and business load were taken into account during system design, video service access amount is extremely uncontrollable, and insufficient resource reservation resulted in frequent service load faults.
• Development and test environments hard to maintain, inconsistent environment, low resources utilization: Current business capability is provided by several platforms, and each project has to handle the R&D tasks of its own business platform. As a result, independent host and environments resources are occupied, and it is almost impossible to perform joint commissioning and test for multiple services.
• Unable to offer normalized video capability service to third parties: Due to unnormalized R&D system, when providing service to third parties, multiple code versions need to maintain during the code submission process. Therefore, the customer was unable to offer unnormalized service capability.
• Using Alauda to set up unified PAAS container cloud platform: Centrally manage multi-client application systems, connect in depth with video cloud service capability, open up the underlying resource pool, scale up/down automatically based on business load requirements.
• Using Alauda's automated O&M platform: It provides automatic log collection, automatically builds up business codes, automatically monitors data collection, and can perform quick deployment and publish for services around the video cloud capability platform.
• Alauda CI/CD functions can normalize R&D code submission, standardize business development, test and production publish processes and unify management of code submission regulations for R&D team.
• It implements unified management for core business and enhances business O&M efficiency: Unified O&M of platform management business system can reduce O&M cost and increase business publish efficiency. Through the Alauda container platform, the unified R&D code output interface was standardized to increase the reusability of business code, and the tune of the development environment and production environment and the usability test of the business were also greatly improved.
• Geo-deployment resulting in significant improvement in productivity: Alauda platform is used to unify mirror management, implementing CDN business deployment and publish at carriers of provincial cities in China. This saves service deployment time and increases service response efficiency.
• Significant increase in underlying resources utilization: the underlying resources have been opened and shared, and it can implement on-demand resource allocation with the second-level deployment capability of container cloud platform.
